What an amazing concert on Saturday night! Not only did we get to hear the Godmother of Gospel who, after a mere 50 years on the road, still has a voice that seems to come from somewhere near the earth’s core and makes Tina Turner look bland, inspiring us with songs like ‘Take a Load off, Annie’, ‘Respect Yourself’ and ‘For What It’s Worth’ (‘Stop, Hey, What’s That Sound’), but we were lucky enough to be introduced to Tig Linn, Ms. Staple’s choice of support act for the night. Tig Linn, a wonderful combination of Gospel, Soul, Trad and African influences left the audience hungry for more and, I believe, we can look forward to seeing them again in Whelans on November 17th. Don’t miss that gig!
