HAPPY BIRTHDAY WILLIE NELSON (b. 1933)!

Willie Hugh Nelson was born 1933 in Abbott, Texas. An American country singer, singer-songwriter, as well as an author, poet, actor and activist, the critical success of the album Shotgun Willie  (1973), combined that of Red Headed Stranger (1975) and Stardust (1978), made Nelson one of the most recognized artists in country music. One of the main figures of outlaw country, a subgenre of country music that developed at the end of the 1960s as a reaction to the conservative restrictions of the Nashville sound, Nelson has acted in over 30 films, co-authored several books, and has been involved in activism for the use of biofuels and the legalization of marjuana. For fans of country music, check out these great value country music songbooks: Budgetbooks: Country Songs  – you’ll get a lot of bang for your buck with this great collection of 90 songs for only €17.09! Or Country – The Chord Songbook 22 classic country songs for only €12.20.

And to start your week in classic Willie Nelson style, here’s a special treat: Willie singing ‘Always on My Mind’.

SUMMER’S ON THE WAY – BEACH BOYS NEW ALBUM OUT IN JUNE!

Reuniting for their 50th anniversary tour, American pop icons the Beach Boys are also finishing off a brand-new album. The pop veterans are planning on releasing an album of all new material on June 5th, according to band member Bruce Johnston. ‘It’s all brand new. There’s a lot of what you’d hope to hear from Brian [Wilson] on there. It’s not a quilt or a pot luck dinner, it’s not like, “OK, everybody show up with your songs.” It’s not one of those kind of albums. There’s a lot of Brian in there, and Mike [Love]. It’s just nice to know there is a Mike Love and a Brian Wilson still around to write together.’ Check out these great Beach Boy books
Beach Boys Anthology (Piano/Vocal/Guitar) €22.20
Beach Boys Greatest Hits – Strum It Guitar €17.10
Here’s a flavour of the Beach Boys with one of their finest songs ‘God Only Knows’

Just In! MXR M77 Custom Modified Badass Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal

Worth every penny at €104.50! Guitar World Magazine said of the Custom Badass line when they were first launched: They are ‘as wild and raunchy as music was back in hard rock’s glory days,’ offering ‘the versatility and low-noise performance that today’s players demand.’ With the new pedal, Dunlop has added a 100HZ cut and boost control that allows for a more focused EQ when cut, or a beefier tone when boosted. The Bump switch engages an alternate EQ voicing that boosts the lows and mids. Put it in front of the ’78 Custom Badass Distortion for a slew of amp-like gain structures that won’t mask your tone.

Today is the Anniversary of the Premiere of Frederic Chopin’s ‘Grand Polonaise Brillante’ (Paris, 1835)

The ‘Grande Polonaise Brillante’ in Eb Major Op. 22, set for piano and orchestra was written first, in 1830-31. In 1834, Chopin wrote an Andante Spianato in G, for piano solo, which he added to the start of the piece, and joined the two parts with a fanfare-like sequence. The combined work was published in 1836, and was dedicated to Madame d’Este. It features as the wonderful conclusion to the Academy Award-winning 2002 film The Pianist. Enjoy this wonderful performance by Martha Argerich, the great Argentinian pianist.
